YESTERDAYS NEWS DESK

COLBERT: Wow, what an honor. The White House Correspondents' Dinner. To actually sit here, at the same table with my hero, George W. Bush, to be this close to the man. I feel like I'm dreaming. Somebody pinch me. You know what? I'm a pretty sound sleeper -- that may not be enough. Somebody shoot me in the face.

This post is for the one person out there who haven't seen
the video of Steven Colbert roasting Bush at the White House Corresponents Dinner yet, thanks to Mrs. Andry for the links. Here's the trascript which makes for some very relaxing bed time reading.

In summation: Bush is a joke and the mainstream press is a joke, Colbert is a fearless and hilarious man with Kong sized balls.

Comments:
That's Ms. Andry, Corns. In my fictional blahgsphere internets life I'm not married. And also the pun doesn't work so well....

also, transcript avail at http://dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/4/30/1441/59811 cuz Corny's link not working...

Yes, thank you!
And thank you for the previous post re: the slovenian guy, Slavoj Zizek. Very refreshing, indeed. It's a relief, really. Was just talking with The Mrs. the other day about the thing about language and naming being insufficient, and how real meaning lies in mystery and perplexity/complexity. Not to dis my writer friends, because they know how to break it down, or prance around it magically, but anyway, that jumped out at me as right on...

Colbert is the bravest and funniest person on the planet. It thrilled me to watch that video.

Corny, your blog content of late has been blowing my pea-brain to smithereens! yup, mashed peas all over the walls...

Thanks to you and Ms. Andry for posting those linx. The Colbert roast is sheer genius. and when it comes to Bush, you gotta laugh, or else you'll cry.

Just to drag the conversation into the gutter did you know that a "Cheney"is the new slang term for um, shooting your friend in the face? Also just learned the slang "bowling ball".

Ah yes, bowling ball, thats related to "the stinger" no? (two in the pink, one in the stink)?

Zizek was saying that the best movies about the Nazi's are comedies. He talked about the use of humor as a critical tool, saying something like Tragedy is an insufficient form to talk about our violent world, there is dignity in Tragedy where as Comedy is irrational, we need comedy to portray the gap of irrationality.

the tradgic genre is too dignified to describe the horrors or war...

Yes, Sloths, you got to laugh, it it's slitsville for me.

Bowling ball just cracks me the hell up because I picture renting special shoes and jerseys. Cutting way back on slang and calling people
"guy".

edward_ winkleman's blog has some really good comments on the Colbert roast.
